EC gears up for IGS decision

The European Commission is planning for the next stage in controversial discussions for a mandatory insurance guarantee scheme in every member state. The European Commission has yet to announce its conclusions but following a consultation which closed in July this year the Commission will be expected to make its decision. The Commission recently published a feedback statement summarizing the views gathered during the consultation exercise but the document omitted its own views on the next steps. The consultation was based on the Oxera feasibility study, commissioned by the EC and published last year, which outlined the options and highlighted the current gaps in consumer protection from the patchwork of schemes across Europe.
