£50,000 damages for mesothelioma death

The family of a paint chemist has been awarded £50,000 following his death from mesothelioma. The deceased began work as a paint technician and finished it as a paint chemist working in the laboratory. The main focus of his work was to test paint for its durability. As part of this process a substance called Asbestolux, which contains an asbestos substance, was used. The paint was applied on to the Asbestolux and then scrubbed by machines to try to wear the paint away which resulted in asbestos dust fibres entering the air. No protective face masks were worn during this process.
