Mesothelioma damages of £110,000
A man who worked at a food factory has been awarded £110,000 after he developed mesothelioma. The factory was previously a
chemical factory. Miles of pipework used for hot water lagged with asbestos had to be removed in a major renovation program
lasting almost five years. The man and his colleagues had to clear the asbestos insulation off in order to get at the bolts
which kept the pipes together. He had to use a hammer to knock off the asbestos lagging. No warnings were given to the member
about the risks of asbestos dust, nor was he provided with any protective equipment.
