Mesothelioma award for cold storage assembler
A former cold storage unit assembler has received substantial compensation after he developed mesothelioma. He was responsible
for assisting in the construction of large refrigerator units for abattoirs, restaurants and food shops. The refrigeration
units were lined with asbestos sheets. It was his responsibility to both cut and drill the asbestos sheets as part of the
installation process. He recalled that the fitting of the asbestos sheets would generate significant amounts of asbestos dust
and he was regularly exposed during his work with them between 1960 and 1978. He was never warned about the dangers of asbestos
dust, nor was he provided with any mask or any other protective equipment by the defendant company.
