AXA freezes investors’ funds to avoid run
Funds that do not qualify for the government guarantee face customer withdrawals
Insurance company AXA New Zealand has suspended three mortgage funds holding NZ$25mn (£9mn) of investors’ money for 30 days
in anticipation of a surge in withdrawals. It believes investors will switch to funds covered by the New Zealand government’s
Deposit Guarantee scheme, which does not include mortgage funds.
