Care assistant wins back injury compensation
A care assistant who attempted to stop a psychiatric patient committing suicide has won £13,500 compensation after injuring
her back in the process. She worked in a ward that deals with the care of the elderly. A psychiatric patient was incorrectly
assigned to this ward for treatment. The behaviour of the patient was known to be erratic and unpredictable and he had previously
displayed violence to the staff. Despite staff complaints, this patient remained on the ward.
