Brick layers back injury award

A man working as a brick layer has been awarded £35,000 after sustaining a back injury at work. He was in the process of lifting a manhole cover in order to carry out a repair to it when he sustained an injury to his back. The man and a colleague were provided with a spade and a pick axe in order to lever the manhole cover when the cover slipped off both of their tools causing him to fall forwards jarring his back. The injury meant he was unable to return to his pre-accident work and his employment was terminated on the grounds of ill health.
