Willis Re announces P&I unit

Reinsurance broker Willis Re has launched a Protection & Indemnity (P&I) and Marine Mutual Reinsurance unit as part of its Specialities Marine Division. Willis Re is the reinsurance arm of the Willis Group. According to Chris Clark, chief executive of Willis Re Specialty, Willis is the only one of the global brokers to have established a unit fully dedicated to the P&I and marine mutual insurance market. Robin Brown, a former executive director of Willis Re, has been appointed managing director of the new unit. Mr Brown joined Willis in 1993. In addition, three new executive directors will join current executive director Jason Cudlipp as part of this team. Bruce Clayton, who has 25 years of marine and P&I reinsurance experience, joins Willis Re from Arthur J Gallagher. Mr Clayton will serve as deputy to Mr Brown. Martin Meier who ran his own consulting company, Meier Business Associates, and who has more than 20 years of marine reinsurance experience, will focus on formulating and implementing risk management strategies for ship owners. Charles Spanton joins Willis Re from Guy Carpenter where he was senior vice president of the Marine Treaty Department with responsibility for handling accounts and placing business globally.
