Liability Risk and Insurance
Hand crushed by skip
A labourer has received £23,500 compensation after being injured at work. He was stood between two skips when, suddenly and
without warning, one of the skips was moved, trapping his hand. It was understood that another employee had operated the control
to move the skip when it was unsafe to do so. He suffered a crush injury to his right hand which caused a fracture, bruising
of the nerves and division of muscles. As a result of this, he required surgery, physiotherapy and occupational therapy, and
was off work for four months.
