IGS plans split Europe

Ceiops’ research shows majority support for compulsory safety net schemes but the CEA says more ground-work is needed

The European Commission has been left to consider its next move after a consultation on insurance guarantee schemes (IGS) highlighted the extent of political divide in Europe. A survey of member states by Ceiops revealed that the majority of countries – 14 – are in favour of mandating for safety net schemes at a national level but eight members stand opposed to the proposal. Belgium was the only member state to support the alternative proposal of a single EU-wide guarantee scheme.
