CNP Assurances buys stake in Cypriot bank

The French insurer said it hopes to expand Marfin’s banking activities into Eastern Europe

The French provider of personal insurance, CNP Assurances, is to buy a 50.1% stake in the insurance activities of the Cypriot based Marfin Popular Bank for some €145mn ($228mn). Additional monies may be payable if the venture meets specified targets.
