Aetna establishes China office
Asia
US health insurer Aetna has established a representative office in Shanghai, China, as the first step in a two-year process
required before an insurer can apply for a full license under China’s regulatory rules. Aetna’s international division, Aetna
Global Benefits (AGB), received official approval from the China Insurance Regulatory Commission in March to establish a Shanghai
office. Aetna said it will spend the next two years researching the potential for health insurance in China, targeting multinational
employers expanding in the Far East and Chinese-based companies.
