27.5, explosion, damaged pipeline

Turkey: natural gas supplies from Iran to Turkey were severed after an explosion damaged a pipeline between the two countries. The blast, the cause of which remains unknown, occurred 13 kilometres from the Iranian border in the eastern Turkish province of Agri, the state-run BOTAS gas company said in a statement. The company said there was no evidence to suggest a terrorist attack and officials were considering the possibility of a gas build-up. The explosion sparked a fire, forcing the authorities to cut the gas flow through the pipeline to bring the blaze under control.
