The after-effects of the massive quake in the central Province of Sichuan continue to emerge more than a month after the 12 May quake. The death toll is frequently revised upward, with the latest figure put at 69,146 and over 18,000 unaccounted for. The number of homeless is put at 5m. There is still emergency work in the region, diverting water to prevent blocked-up rivers from inundating villages when water pressure increases.
