Daval Steel Products v. M/V Acadia Forest and others (The Acadia Forest) - U.S. District Court (S.D.N.Y.) (Mukasey D.J.) - 14 April 1988

First decision of an American Court applying the higher limitation amount of the Visby Amendments to the Hague Rules

The plaintiffs sued for damage to their shipment of steel products that allegedly occurred during a voyage on the defendants’ vessel Acadia Forest , from Antwerp to New Orleans. The defendants sought to limit their liability to $500 per package on the basis of COGSA, which governed all foreign shipments to or from U.S. ports.
