Whether United States entitled to recover from hull underwriters amount of judgment awarded against foreign vessel owner as equitable subrogee

The vessel Eurybates collided with the U.S. Navy destroyer Dahlgren . In limitation proceedings a total of $1,353,560, composed of $753,353 collision damages to the Dahlgren and $603,207 awarded to the United States as equitable subrogee of the claims of the cargo owners, was awarded against the owners of the Eurybates - Ta Chi Navigation.
