Collision action - Crossing vessels in narrow channel

On 10 April 1974 a collision occurred between the plaintiffs’ vessel Visahakit I and the defendants’ vessel Toluca at the mouth of the river Mae Nam Chao Phraya, on which the city of Bangkok is situated. The channel was 100 metres wide, and it was common ground that both vessels were bound to comply with rule 25(a) of the Collision Regulations, which provides:
