Monte-Carlo tackles the question of over-regulation
Regulation may have been of secondary interest to the subject of US catastrophe exposure for delegates at this year’s reinsurance Rendez-Vous de Septembre in Monte-Carlo but timing conspired to make the subject of particular relevance as the topic for the event’s formal debate.
The Rendez-Vous, celebrating its 50th year, marks the unofficial start of the end-of-year renewal season, a chance for senior
executives at insurance, reinsurance and broking firms to outline their hopes and strategies for the coming year. Each year
the organizers hold a debate on a topical theme, although the event is rarely well-attended as most delegates prefer to spend
their time in private meetings. A shame, this year at least, since the debate featured some good presentations and was well
introduced and moderated by Piotr Śliwicki, chief executive of Polish insurance group Ergo Hestia.
