AMLIN TO OPEN OFFICE IN SINGAPORE

UK-based insurer Amlin is to open an office in Singapore to develop regional business, subject to approval from the Monetary Authority of Singapore. The office will be established within the existing Lloyd’s Asia platform and will initially write a portfolio of marine business, mainly energy, with some cargo. Chris Beazley, previously at Willis, will be managing director and principal officer. Amlin said that its Singapore operation was expected to begin operating during the third quarter. “As with Amlin Bermuda, the new operation will adopt the successful core underwriting strategy of the London business”, Amlin said. CEO Charles Phillipps observed that “all the evidence points to Singapore as the major hub for regional business and Amlin intends to be part of this market and to support the platform created by Lloyd’s”.
