NEWLINE OPENS FOR BUSINESS IN SINGAPORE

Newline Underwriting Management, the managing agent of Lloyd’s syndicate 1218, has opened an office in Singapore, its first overseas. Newline, part of the London Market division of Connecticut-based Odyssey Re — in turn ultimately owned by Canadian financial group Fairfax — specialises in underwriting international liability business. Newline Asia in Singapore will offer local clients access to syndicate 1218’s full line of products. Oliver Massot, general manager of OdysseyRe’s Singapore branch, will act as CEO for Newline Asia. Rob Harris has relocated from London to Singapore to become Newline Asia’s chief underwriting officer. Odyssey Re London Market Division CEO Brian Young said that “we are keen to develop our portfolio in Asia and by establishing a physical presence in Singapore we will enhance our ability to meet the growing demand for financial lines insurance in the region”.
