French insurer Groupama has announced that it plans to set up a branch in Deyang City, in the south-western province of Sichuan, as part of its strategy to develop its presence in China’s rural regions. Groupama confirmed the plan at a seminar with city officials during a visit to Deyang. Earlier this year Stephane Gin, director of the agricultural insurance department of Groupama said that the insurer, the first foreign insurer to enter the Chinese Agricultural insurance market, had “accompanied French rural development for 100 years. It plans to offer a basket of products in the rural sector, including those for peasant family belongings, livestock, crops, plus medical and accident insurance.
