JAPANESE REGULATOR WANTS MEDICAL INSURANCE PROFIT DISCLOSURE
Japan’s Financial Services Agency is to ask insurers to report the ratio of paid benefits to premiums collected on medical
and nursing care policies. Disclosure will be mandatory from this fiscal year. The FSA said that the regulations would illustrate
how insurers were performing in the so-called third sector, while also establishing whether firms were charging appropriate
premiums. The FSA said that the figures, when published, could not be taken at immediate face value, since the numbers could
not be immediately comparable.
