BAO VIET WILL PAY FISHERMEN’S RELATIVES EARLY

Vietnamese insurer BaoViet said yesterday that it would be compensating the families of fishermen who went missing in Typhoon Chanchu, which struck on May 18, after a month. Normally relatives have to wait six months to establish that the insured is actually dead. Bao Viet deputy director Le Kim Thai said that the company would also pay from its relief fund an additional 1m dong to each family. However, he noted that the recipients of the policy payments and the additional relief would have to pledge to give the money back if the insured returned home.
