BAO VIET WILL PAY FISHERMEN’S RELATIVES EARLY
Vietnamese insurer BaoViet said yesterday that it would be compensating the families of fishermen who went missing in Typhoon
Chanchu, which struck on May 18, after a month. Normally relatives have to wait six months to establish that the insured is
actually dead. Bao Viet deputy director Le Kim Thai said that the company would also pay from its relief fund an additional
1m dong to each family. However, he noted that the recipients of the policy payments and the additional relief would have
to pledge to give the money back if the insured returned home.
