EU states face action over infringements
The European Commission (EC) has uncovered further infringements of insurance law in six member states and is taking action
against Italy, Finland, Poland, Hungary, Germany and the Czech Republic. The EC first opened infringement proceedings against
Italy in October 2005 over national legislation that requires all third-party motor liability insurers to offer cover for
all types of drivers in all regions of the country. After two reasoned opinions, the EC has referred Italy to the European
Court of Justice.
