London buses sued over wheelchair ramps

Disability discrimination proceedings have been started against two London bus companies. According to Leigh Day, despite bus companies in London stating that all their buses have wheelchair ramps for their passengers to use, their client “frequently finds that he cannot board buses, either because the driver does not know how to operate the ramp, or the ramp is broken…In some instances, he is told that he cannot come on the bus because of his wheelchair, or is subject to abuse from drivers for trying to use the bus service. All these examples constitute forms of unfavourable and unjustifiable treatment towards wheelchair users.”
