5.1 Construction law in France stemmed from the large construction projects that have marked its history, from the great cathedrals to the Palace of Versailles. Notably, it was during the construction of the Palace of Versailles that the rules specific to public procurement were formalized, the principles of which later inspired the successive editions of the French Public Procurement Code (Code des Marchés Publics).
