Asbestos a rating factor
Insurers’ asbestos liabilities and reserves have become a factor in credit rating, according to rating agency Moody’s Investors
Service. Noting that several insurers took charges during 2001 to strengthen asbestos loss reserves, it said many more will
have to do likewise ‘to keep their heads above water that is rapidly rising’.
