Use of land for disposal of carcasses

The secretary of state for the environment was not under any duty to pay farmers for the use of their land to burn the carcasses of their own animals slaughtered when infected with foot-and-mouth disease. Compensation was due, and had been paid, for the burning of animals belonging to other farmers.
