Disclosure of sensitive personal information

In awarding (fairly minimal) damages of £3,500 to a ‘supermodel’ who complained of newspaper publication of a photograph of her attending a Narcotics Anonymous meeting, the court has done little to clarify the privacy rights of celebrities. The exact status of such publication links to the three requirements of section 4 of the Data Protection Act, which are cumulative – ie all three must be fulfilled to avoid contravention.
