The current Constitution of Chile dates to 1980 and thus to the time of the Augusto Pinochet government. After the country's return to democracy, the original text was considered to have lacked democratic legitimacy and has been subject to various modifications. However, the reforms have been deemed vastly insufficient to safeguard certain political, social and economic rights.
