Registration requirements under Thailand’s new legislation for multimodal transport operators

In the previous issue of Shipping & Trade Law (Volume 6: April pp(1–2)) we outlined some of the main features of Thailand’s new Maritime Transport Act (MTA) which came into force on 23 December 2005. The MTA requires Thai and international multimodal transport operators (MTO) to register in Thailand before they can operate multimodal transport there. Because failure to do so can result in severe penalties, we set out below relevant provisions.
