Fears about new ship emission rules are explored by Mike Burns, of Weightmans

Vessels burning heavy fuels, producing damaging environmental consequences are a worldwide maritime problem: in Europe alone some 80,000 vessels call annually at ports annually and worldwide hundreds of thousands contribute to the environmental burden. To combat the issue, from 1 January 2015 the International Maritime Organization’s regulations on emissions, contained in Annexe VI of the MARPOL Convention will finally come into force, after a number of years in development.
