CALIFORNIA COMMISSIONER URGES INSURERS TO ADJUST TO EXTREME WEATHER

California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones has claimed that many insurers are not adjusting to climate change, but are instead simply refusing to insure properties in low-lying coastal zones, as well as cancelling policies for homeowners living near forested hills. Speaking at a recent forum on insurance and climate change held in Pasadena. Mr Jones said that there was "room for the insurance industry to take a leadership role" and urged that insurers not just cancel policies. He noted that of 184 survey responses from insurers to his officer, only 23 had a "comprehensive" climate change strategy.
