NIGERIAN INSURERS TOLD TO DIGITIZE PREMIUM COLLECTIONS
The International Labour Organisation (ILO)’s Microinsurance Innovation Facility has charged insurance operators to replace paper-based recording of premium collections with a mobile phone-enabled solution that will "simplify administrative processes and enhance data quality". It noted that the Nigerian Insurers' Association planned to completely do away with paper certificates, and that UAB Vie had successfully introduced such a paperless facility. The ILO said that the implementation of mobile phone technology has resulted in an improved process and better data quality. The ILO observed that even though field staff still faced connectivity issues in the field from time to time, the mobile phone solution allowed them to record premiums in real-time.
