Australia life and benefits market

The life insurance market in Australia is dominated by joint-stock companies plus one remaining mutual insurer. With the exception of the market leader, AMP, the standard model for the largest financial services groups is a vertically integrated banking group ultimately managed through a holding company. Such groups may own a life company, a general insurance company and possibly one or more of a bank, a health benefit organisation, a fund manager and an investment and security house as well.
