Dry Bulk Handy Holding Inc v Fayette International Holdings Ltd (The "Bulk Chile") [2013] EWCA Civ 184

Bills of lading – Owners’ bills of lading specifying method of payment of freight – Whether shipowner entitled to instead demand payment to himself

In a case involving a charterparty chain with the usual complexities, it serves to first identify the ultimate parties to the dispute. DBHH, the claimant and respondent, were the head owners of the vessel Bulk Chile. Metinvest, the defendant and appellant, was the voyage charterer and also the shipper under the bills of lading at issue in the case, which were owners' bills issued by Fayette, a trip-time charterer.
