Anonymity
JIH v News Group Newspapers [2011] EWCA Civ 42, 31 January; LSG 17 February p18
A sportsman known as JIH, agreed a consent order with News Group Newspapers in the autumn granting him anonymity until the
time came for a full trial of his application for an injunction. Previously a newspaper story had been published about an
alleged sexual encounter of the claimant and the agreement related to another sexual encounter with a different person. Despite
the agreement the judge refused the application for anonymity without hearing argument and decided the claimant could be named,
subject to appeal.
