£75,000 damages for back injury

A nursery nurse has secured £75,000 damages in an out of court settlement from an NHS Trust following a serious back injury at work. The accident happened as she was carrying a box through a cupboard door; the contents of the box slipped causing her to fall against the door which sprung back on her. She twisted her back and fell onto equipment in the cupboard. She had to have a spinal operation, and was off work for a long time, and then had further relapses. She was unable to resume work as a nursery nurse.
