Charman v Charman [2006] EWHC 1879 (Fam)
The petitioner sought capital provision from her former husband. During their 30 years of marriage, the husband had generated
wealth of between £150m and £160m through his exceptional entrepreneurial activities in the field of insurance. Approximately
£6m was in the wife’s name, £25-30m was held in trust for the parties’ children, and the remaining £125m was either in the
husband’s ownership (£56m) or in a further trust (£68m). The judge rejected the husband’s contention that the trust was ‘dynastic’
and should not be taken into account. (
Comment:
He will almost certainly appeal that decision.)
