Litigation Letter
Sunday working
Copsey v WWB Devon Clays Ltd CA TLR 25 August
The employer operated clay quarries in Devon and sand quarries throughout the UK. Following a new order in 1999/2000, which
required a substantial increase in tonnage of sand at its King’s Lynn quarry, the employer decided to change the employee’s
work pattern to include Sunday working. The employee could not agree to the change. The tribunals found that his dismissal
was not for his religious beliefs but because he declined to accept the new arrangements.
