INSURER EXAMINES OLYMPIC HURDLER INJURY COVERAGE

The injury that forced China’s star hurdler Liu Xiang to pull out of the Olympics may be coverage under an accident policy issued by Ping An, local reports suggest. In October last year Ping An gave Liu a Yuan100m one-year accident insurance policy. This free cover was in addition to a separate Yuan100m policy for the whole Chinese athletics team. Liu, one of China’s most popular sports stars, pulled out of the 110 metre hurdles on Monday. Insurance representatives are investigating to see whether the injury is covered by the policy. If it is deemed non-accidental it will not be covered, according to a report in the Shanghai Daily.
