Most member states back mandatory safety net schemes…
The majority of Europe’s member states have backed European Commission proposals for compulsory insurance guarantee schemes in all countries. In response to the Commission’s consultation paper published in May this year setting out four options, Ceiops gathered the views of its members and found that 14 member states were in favour of mandating safety net schemes at a national level. Eight member states opposed any change to the status quo and only Belgium supported the Commission’s third option of a single EU-wide guarantee scheme to cover all cross-border contracts.
