SHANGHAI INSURERS WROTE YUAN14.8BN IN Q1

The China Insurance Regulatory Commission’s Shanghai bureau has revealed that insurers in the city wrote premium totalling Yuan18.68bn in the first quarter of this year. The lion’s share – Yuan14.75bn - related to life insurance, while property and casualty insurers wrote Yuan3.93bn. However it was property and casualty premiums that showed the greatest year-on-year growth, increasing 57.46% from the first quarter the previous year. As of the end of last month, Shanghai was home to 41 property and casualty insurers, 37 life insurers, four pension firms, five health insurers, four reinsurers and five insurance asset management companies.
