GAFTA Arbitration Rules - Whether court has jurisdiction to extend the time under section 27, Arbitration Act 1950

Section 27 of the Arbitration Act 1950 gives the court a discretion to extend the time for commencing arbitration proceedings “where the terms of an agreement to refer future disputes to arbitration provide that any claim to which the agreement applies shall be barred unless notice to appoint an arbitrator is given . . . or some other step to commence arbitration proceedings is taken within a time fixed by the agreement.”
