The Marion - Q.B.D. (Adm. Ct.) (Sheen J.) - 30 March 1982

Limitation of liability - “actual fault or privity”

On 14 March 1977 the tanker Marion anchored off Hartlepool and in the course of doing so severely damaged an oil pipeline which ran from the Ekofisk Field to Teesside. The owners of the pipeline claimed some $25,000,000 from the Marion ’s owners who now sought a decree limiting their liability to some £982,000 plus interest.
