Trade council challenges Florida non-resident rule

THE Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers (CIAB) has challenged a regulatory measure requiring non-resident brokers seeking to do business with Florida’s insurer of last resort to place risks through one of the state’s resident agents. The CIAB has sent a letter to the Citizen’s Property Insurance Corp accusing the insurer of acting unconstitutionally when it required an individual to hold a resident agency licence to become an appointment agent for the various types of insurance, including wind damage, covered by Citizens.
